Introducing Agentech’s Co-Founders

Get to know the two leaders at the helm of Agentech, an AI claims assistant that is already transforming claims within the pet insurance industry. Both co-founders come from incredibly impressive backgrounds (and recent exits) in insurtech and cybersecurity, and we’re proud to introduce them.

By the way, one of them is working on an interesting hobby…

You’re meeting someone new at a dinner party and they ask what you do. What do you tell them?

Robin: I tell them I’m helping to shape the future of the insurance industry for generations to come. Specifically, I’m passionate about developing solutions that enhance the claims process for my carrier and TPA clients. I want to support desk adjusters and claims handlers with innovative tools, ultimately providing better service to the policyholders. Then… I drop the hammer: ”You know, like developing an entire army of expertly trained digital agents that quadruple an adjuster’s output without adding labor.” 🙂

Alex: I usually start by mentioning that I'm in the pet insurance space. After seeing the "Oh, okay" look, I explain that I'm part of a movement to make the insurance industry more user-friendly and efficient. We're developing an AI workforce to help process claims. This approach tends to spark curiosity and lead to more engaging conversations — a definite improvement over my previous explanations about my last company, TokenEx!

Tell us about your professional backgrounds and respective areas of expertise. How did you become leaders in insurtech (Robin) and cybersecurity (Alex)?

Robin: Sometimes it pays to be old, ha! I actually co-founded a company called WeGoLook back in 2009, before insurtech (spelled “insuretech” in the early days — what a debate that was), Uber, and shared APIs were really a “thing.” By leveraging the gig economy, WeGoLook quickly dispatched people onsite to capture information in the form of photos, documents, and more.  We helped pioneer “desk adjusting” — sending information to the desk adjuster to help them process claims more quickly. Many startups entered the space over the next several years: Snapsheet, Hover, PLNAR, BetterView, CoverWallet, DuckCreek, Kin, Hippo, Slice, Lemonade, Symbility Solutions, to name a few. I developed many industry friendships, and several of us worked together on solutions for our clients. We truly created meaningful impact within the insurance industry.

Alex: My background is a blend of Unix Administration (1.5%), Cybersecurity (98%), and most recently, Artificial Intelligence (0.5%). I spent the first 25 years of my career in the cybersecurity realm, where I built TokenEx, a data protection platform. After exiting that business in 2021 through a Series B majority transaction, I've dedicated the past two years to learning about and working with AI. Recently, I joined Agentech.inc because its technology and product-market fit are poised to disrupt an industry that's crying out for thought leadership and transformation. I couldn't be more thrilled about this venture

What’s your vision for Agentech?

Robin: We’re already seeing Agentech’s impact on our pet insurance carrier partners, and it’s been incredible to witness! While the insurance industry has made significant strides in advancing technology over the past 15 years, there’s still immense potential for life-changing solutions. Agentech is a virtual army of specialized digital agents, each expertly trained on a specific task within the claims process. We’ve seen that adjusters are thrilled to have an “assistant” supporting them, allowing them to focus on providing their expertise and delivering an excellent policyholder experience. Oh, and Agentech does this all without increasing labor costs.

It’s important to note that Agentech doesn’t replace human roles; it supports them, making adjusters more effective and happier! I LOVE IT! This will absolutely transform claims operations over the next 24-36 months.

Alex: My vision for Agentech is to disrupt, transform, and evolve an industry that desperately needs an overhaul. Insurance is becoming increasingly expensive due to various factors — climate change, rising labor costs, and legacy technologies, to name a few. Agentech will be the platform that helps lower costs, increase accuracy, and accelerate claims processing. What I love about this platform is that it works alongside the existing claims workforce, making their jobs easier, more productive, and less cumbersome. At the end of this journey, if we can say we've delighted carriers, claims handlers, and policyholders  —we'll have achieved our goal.

You’re both co-founders of Agentech. What are the benefits of this dual-founder model?

Robin: Experience. Alex is being humble about his background — his series B exit was over $140 MM. He’s one of the most talented operations professionals and cyber engineers I’ve ever known. I had the privilege of working with Alex as a consultant several years ago and witnessed his expertise firsthand. He and his wife, Stacey (former COO of Paycom), were my neighbors for several years. We share the same core values and deep respect for our clients, and our combined experience propels Agentech forward, enabling us to deliver outstanding AI technology solutions to our client partners.

Alex: Two is always better than one, in my humble opinion. What I love about this partnership is what we each bring to the table. Robin built and exited a claims startup, amassing an impressive amount of knowledge and influence in insurtech. I've seen this firsthand when she helped me at TokenEx; we needed guidance working with various entities in the insurance vertical. When it comes to Agentech, my contribution is expertise in building and scaling a technology platform in one of the most competitive landscapes: cybersecurity. My first love is our customers, closely followed by my passion for culture. I'm driven by building teams purpose-built for execution —there's so much to do in this world, and I want to make a difference.

What’s the most important goal for Agentech over the next 90 days?

Robin: We’re in the process of selecting our next two client design partners. While the Agentech team has spent nearly a year training and perfecting its digital agents, we also know that each carrier has unique guidelines and processes, and we can integrate Agentech into these custom workflows.  This is the fun part — who wouldn’t want a custom army of highly trained AI agents for their desk team? If you’d like to be considered, hit me up!

Alex: This is an easy one: raising the capital necessary to start the disruption process. The platform is already amazing, boasting 98% accuracy for claim profile creation and processing hundreds of profiles in less than an hour. The support we have from Gitwit, our product and marketing partners, and 19days, the venture studio that incepted Agentech, is best-in-class and has alleviated distraction in our go-to-market motion. Now it's time to capitalize the business and get to work.

Favorite way to relax and blow off steam after a long day?

Robin: Dude, did you know you can train koi fish to go to a target or even jump through a hoop like dolphins? This is the first year my koi fish have ever had babies. So, now you know what I’m doing in-between zoom calls. 😊

PS. As Alex’s ex-neighbor, I can also attest that he likes a nice cigar on the porch after a long day!

Alex: It depends on the season. In summer, my top choice is spending a day on the lake with family. During winter, it's finding a weekend to hit the slopes with loved ones. A close second in both scenarios is nurturing relationships with those I care about most.
